Description
Better conversations build better connections.
3-Hour Workshop | $75 per person | Perth | Take-Home Resources | Certificate of Attendance
What makes a student feel safe with us?
Trust isn’t built through one perfect conversation. It develops through hundreds of small interactions that tell a student: you’re safe here, I’m listening and what you say matters.
This workshop looks at the communication skills that help create that sense of psychological safety, including active listening, validation, open questioning and rapport building.
When conversations are difficult
What do you say to the student who answers every question with “I don’t know”? What about the student who is angry, embarrassed or defensive? Or the student who suddenly tells you something important when you have five minutes until the bell?
We’ll explore practical ways to approach these conversations without turning them into an interview, jumping straight into problem-solving or accidentally shutting the student down.
Connection isn’t about having the perfect words
You don’t need a counselling qualification to communicate well with young people. You do need to know how to listen, when to ask another question, when to validate what someone is feeling and when to resist the urge to immediately fix the problem.
You’ll leave with practical communication techniques you can use across everyday conversations, difficult moments and those unexpected times when a student decides you’re the person they want to talk to.
