Understand the behaviour. Support the regulation.

3-Hour Workshop | $75 per person | Perth | Take-Home Resources | Certificate of Attendance

When emotions take over
A student can know the rule, understand the consequence and genuinely want to do the right thing, and still lose access to all of that when they become overwhelmed.
Emotional regulation is not simply about calming down. It involves noticing internal signals, understanding what is happening, tolerating difficult emotions and having strategies available when the nervous system is under pressure.

Regulation looks different for different students
We’ll explore what dysregulation can look like across students, including escalation, shutdown, withdrawal, impulsivity and behaviours that are easily mistaken for deliberate non-compliance.
We’ll also consider the role of sensory needs, environment, relationships, development and neurodivergence in a student’s capacity to regulate.

Co-regulate before you expect self-regulation
Students don’t develop regulation skills because an adult tells them to calm down. They develop them through repeated experiences of being supported, understood and gradually learning what works for them.
You’ll leave with practical strategies for responding during dysregulation, reducing avoidable triggers and helping students build a toolkit they can increasingly use for themselves.
